Chapter 22
Jeff
Keenan was the first person that Jeff saw after bidding farewell to Destinee. To be fair, he was not in a very good mood and he didn't want Keenan to get another dose of it. Keenan was an easy target, especially after he had admitted to wanting his wife. He didn't have to tell him, he probably did it as a moral obligation more than anything else and Jeff respected him for it, but at the same time, he kind of hated him too.
âWell, I'm not looking for you anyway. Where is your wife?â Jeff immediately went on the defense, because he didn't know where she was, or he didn't like the idea that somebody else was asking about her.
âShe's at the village, looking after Kayla. She said that she wanted to check the infection.â
âI thought that was taken care of?â
Jeff thought the same thing, but obviously he had been wrong.
âWhat do you need her for?â
âOne of the kids fell and it looks like they broke their arm. We were hoping that she could come to the village and maybe look at it. But you say she's not here?â
âNo, you must have just missed her. She was going to check the infection.â
âHow long has she been gone? I just left there not too long ago. I find it hard that we would have missed each other.â
âWell, believe it or not, you probably did miss her. I don't know if you know this, but Destinee can go so much higher than we can.â
âWhat do you mean?â
Jeff shrugged. âHonestly, I'm not really sure. She just said that she practices or something. I would not have believed it if I had not seen it. I think when we get this all straightened out and get the sapphire back where itâs supposed to be, we should seriously think about what we're going to do afterward. If we could go higher than anyone else, think of what we could accomplish.â
Keenan agreed, but at the same time, he looked like his mind was somewhere else. Jeff wanted to ask him what was going on, but he didn't want to, simply because he figured that it had something to do with Destinee, something that he wouldn't want to hear.
âAlright, I will head back to the village. Maybe I did miss her.â
âLet me know if you don't find her.â
âAre you worried that I won't?â
Jeff didn't answer that question. He wouldn't like the answer and before too long, he was pacing the floor, trying not to show how upset he was. Jeff just had a bad feeling. He stopped Keenan again. He was sure that she wasn't there. Jeff felt that he had to do something. What could he do though? Where could she be?
The two men went to look for her, transforming into their dragon forms, and taking to the skies immediately. Jeff didn't talk much, didn't think much either, he was only focused on Destinee and what had happened to her. They flew low, looking for a fallen body or some kind of clue as to what had happened.
